Galway forward Padraic Joyce has rebuffed attempts by the Laois County Board to bring him in as the manager of the county’s footballers.
Joyce is understood to have spoken to officials from the O’Moore County in recent days to discuss the possibility of succeeding Seán Dempsey as manager.
The 33-year old is believed to have turned down the offer, however and becomes the latest potential candidate to rebuff the midland county. Former Kerry midfielder Darragh Ó Sé and Monaghan manager Seamus McEnaney have also turned down the post in recent weeks.
Former Laois under-21 manager Pat Roe, considered within the county as a front runner for the job, has expressed his anger at the length of time it is taking for Laois officials to get a new man in charge.
“It’s bizarre that it’s taking so long,” said Roe.
“The nominations closed last Friday week but there has been nothing done since and the vacuum has been filled by rumours and that isn’t a good situation.
“Obviously, the county executive can take as long as they want and they want to get it right but I believe I am the best man for the job and find it very frustrating. It shouldn’t be taking this long,” he added.
