Darren Clarke is only one shot off the lead after a fog-delayed first round of the US PGA at Whistling Straits.

Clarke was one of 78 players who failed to complete the first round after play was delayed for over three hours at the Wisconsin course and the Ulsterman faces a 30-foot putt for par on the 14th hole when he resumes his round on Friday.

Clarke currently lies on -3, a shot behind clubhouse leaders Francesco Molinari and Bubba Watson, who both shot a 68 on the opening day.

Matt Kuchar, Ernie Els and Nick Watney are also on -4 but have yet to finish their opening rounds, while Ireland’s Shane Lowry is well in contention at -2 after nine holes and Rory McIlroy is a shot further back on -1 after 13.

Graeme McDowell is currently +2 after 11, while Padraig Harrington had a disappointing day and finished with a three over par 75.

World number one Tiger Woods currently lies on -1 after a 71 in the opening round, while Phil Mickelson is also on -1 after 11 holes.
