VIDEO: This 76-year old Wexford man nailing an 18kg kettlebell workout is probably fitter than you

Conor Heneghan

As Zlatan Ibrahimovic said recently, “age is just a number”.

Zlatan felt the need to say that and he’s only 34, but Rory Kelly from Wexford is more than twice the age of the Swedish legend and he’s still as fit as a fiddle.

Rory’s granddaughter Niamh Kelly sent us in the video below of her 76-year old Granddad nailing a workout with an 18kg kettlebell at Total Fitness Systems in Westpoint in Wexford, where he attends a kettlebell class twice a week.

Niamh tells us that Rory is something of a fitness fanatic and has kept himself in great nick after playing Gaelic Football for most of his life.

As well as the kettlebell training, which he started about five years ago as a sprightly 71-year old, Rory trains on his own doing exercises such as weighted sit-ups, planks and roll outs.

He regularly walks along the train tracks from Wexford to visit his daughter in Killurin (well over 10km away) and walks to and from the gym whenever he goes there, which is a good 20 minutes each way.

If that wasn’t enough, he’s never touched alcohol, drinks a raw egg every morning and goes dancing every weekend.

Rory, you’re putting the rest of us to shame.

What a man.

Cheers to Niamh Kelly for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102 or mail editorial@JOE.ie.
