With a huge Twitter following hanging on Conan’s every word, it may come as a surprise to fans of ‘Coco’ to hear that originally, the TV host claims he “didn’t understand why anyone would do Twitter.”
In a recent Fortune magazine interview, Conan revealed that following his ill-fated departure from NBC, he asked executives what restrictions applied to him, such as a six-month ban from appearing on television. Upon discovering that nothing was in place to stop the Irish-American from setting a Twitter account, the TV host jumped at the chance.
“Someone said, ‘Does that include Twitter? No. It doesn’t include Twitter.’ And so I started tweeting,”
“Tell them I would be thrilled if they shut down my Twitter account,” O’Brien told the magazine. I’d love it if that got out. You think PR’s been bad up till now? Wait till you take away my Twitter account.”
