The cosmic ballet goes on

Paul Moore

The cosmic ballet goes on.

It seems that Bono is right after all. He isn’t going to be the only one staring at the sun because Ireland will be experiencing a partial solar eclipse later this morning.

Although the moon is quite fond of creating a shadow as it passes between the Earth and the Sun in other parts of the world, this will be the first one that Irish people will get to view in 16 years.

Don’t forget to leave your office, college, school or bed though because you might just regret it. The next one isn’t due until 2026.

The partial eclipse will begin at around 8.30am and by 9.30am over 90% of the Sun’s surface will be blocked out by the moon.

Here’s a handy guide that gives you the starting time and duration of this cosmic effect around Ireland.

Eclipse

Once again be careful to avoid looking directly into the sun with your eyes or via a telescope for an extended period of time because it can lead to eye damage.

We’re very excited here in JOE Towers and we feel that the late great Leonard Nimoy said it best during his iconic cameo in The Simpsons.
