Family tensions running deep in the Erne County.

Regional newspapers in Ireland are a treasure trove for great headlines and great stories and have been for generations.

Where else, for example, would you hear about a man who painted his prize bull black to ensure that he won an All-Ireland title, as was reported in Clare this week?

As far as headlines are concerned, you’ll do well to find a better one that the matter-of-fact description of a rather bizarre family dispute in the Fermanagh Herald.

You can read the report in full above, but in a nutshell, two cousins were drinking together in a house and one borrowed the other’s shoes to go to the shop.

The guy who lent his shoes to his cousin subsequently accused him of stealing them, but then admitted when questioned in court that he didn’t steal them after all.

All’s well that ends well, eh?
