Organisers are looking for people to take part in a major demonstration outside Leinster House.

Organisers of a major demonstration against the rising cost of car insurance in Ireland are looking for drivers to form a convoy to the gates of Leinster House in Dublin in July.

The demonstration, which is being organised by Ireland Underground, has been planned to protest against the rising cost of car insurance in Ireland, which rose by 32 per cent in the year to March according to the Central Statistics Office.

Calling for “young drivers of Ireland to stand together and push back against this injustice,” Ireland Underground want local volunteers in as many counties as possible to set up meeting points so that drivers can join in a convoy to Dublin for the protest on July 2.

They hope that they can make it “the largest demonstration the country has seen in recent times” and plan to “take over every major route into the capital” on the day.

At the time of writing, over 800 people have already committed to attending the protest on the event’s Facebook page with a further 1,700 interested at this early stage.

Ireland Underground have also asked those concerned by the rising cost of car insurance to write to their local TDs on the matter.
