Comedian and Aladdin star Gilbert Gottfried dies aged 67

Actor and stand-up comedian Gilbert Gottfried has passed away at the age of 67.

His family confirmed the news in a statement posted to his Twitter account, stating that he died after a long illness.

Renowned for his distinctive voice, Gottfried is perhaps best known for his voice performance as Iago the Parrot in the beloved 1992 animated film Aladdin, a role which he reprised in a spin-off series and a number of sequels.

During his career, he was also a cast member on Saturday Night Live, played Mr. Peabody in the Problem Child franchise and voiced Kraang Subprime in the 2014 to 2016 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness,” his family said.

“In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children.

“Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honour.”
