Dennis Quaid apologises to Saoirse Ronan for the worst pronunciation of an Irish name of all time

Conor Heneghan

Proper order.

Dennis Quaid comes across as an extremely likeable chap.

Aside from the fact that he has starred in classics such as Inner space, The Big Easy and Any Given Sunday, his ancestors hail from Limerick so we see no reason to be hating on the man if it’s not necessary.

Irish people in general, however, did take issue with Quaid’s pronunciation of Saoirse Ronan’s name when announcing the Golden Globes nominees a couple of years back.

We know it’s not exactly the easiest name for people outside of Ireland to pronounce – despite Ryan Gosling publicly giving a lesson in how to do so properly – but what the hell was this (see video below)?

Quaid grasped the opportunity to apologise when speaking to Ian Dempsey on Today FM on Wednesday morning while chatting about the release of his upcoming movie, A Dog’s Purpose.

You can listen to Quaid’s apology in an interview in which he spoke about his Irish background, his musical talents and being one of the best golfers in Hollywood.
