The Lonely Island released a hilarious song for the Oscars that’s funnier than anything at the event

Paul Moore

They’re back and they’re slagging every celebrity!

While the Oscars opted for a small surprise with The Shape of Water winning Best Picture, the event itself was rather low-key and conservative considering the year in the film industry.

On the red carpet, campaigns like #MeToo and #TimesUp were prevalent but Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue was relatively straight and aside from one gag about the romance in The Shape of Water, it was pretty flat.

Thank god then that The Lonely Island are here to inject a bit of comedy and madness into the proceedings.

Andy Samberg and co released their Oscar song and in an ideal world, it would have featured contributions from Thor, Wonder Woman, Vin Diesel, Pennywise, Aquaman and oddly, Michael Fassbender addressing his woeful film, The Snowman.

The guys said that they were : “asked to write a song for this year’s Academy Awards. Unfortunately, it wasn’t chosen because it was “financially and logistically impossible”, so for fun we thought we’d share the rough storyboards of what would have been a fully shot, star-studded music video of exorbitant cost. All vocals and visuals are temp, so please use your imagination and enjoy!”

This would have been epic.

Yeah, Sally Hawkins boning the ‘fishman’ in The Shape of Water is still weird.
