The next Mission: Impossible film is set to be ‘world-topping s**t’ and the idea is peak Tom Cruise

Paul Moore

Bonkers.

Remember when Ethan Hunt managed to make our jaws drop to the floor by dangling from the air vent and jumping from an exploding train in the very first Mission: Impossible film?

Yeah, those stunts now look like child’s play in comparison to what IMF’s most beloved agent has done over the course of the Mission: Impossible franchise!

We’ve previously discussed some of the sagas most iconic scenes and how they’ve evolved throughout the years, but with each passing adventure, there’s one thing that’s clear, the stakes continue to get even higher.

In terms of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Wade Eastwood, the stunt coordinator for the franchise, did another remarkable job as Ethan Hunt and his team had an epic duel while dangling from a helicopter, performed a magnificent halo jump over the Parisian skylines, and there was also *that* fight scene in the bathroom.

This being said, there’s one issue for the writer/director Christopher McQuarrie to worry about in the next film, how can these stunts be topped?

Well, in a recent interview with Collider, McQuarrie spoke about M:I7 and revealed that we might be seeing Ethan Hunt in space.

“I can tell you Tom already has a lot of really big ideas. Yeah. World-topping shit,” said the director. When asked if the idea of Tom Cruise’s most famous character kicking-ass in space is an option, here’s what he had to say

“That would be entirely up to SpaceX or NASA. They would have to be involved with that, I would imagine. Or Paramount Pictures. I don’t know how much they want to invest.”

Granted, we’ve seen James Bond in space before with Moonraker, but would this be the right fit for the Mission: Impossible franchise?

Hell, if anyone can make it work, it’s Tom Cruise.
