The Simpsons are going to do something they’ve never done before for one episode this May

Carl Kinsella

Homer Simpson is coming to life.

In an innovative move for animation, The Simpsons are broadcasting Homer live for three minutes of an upcoming episode.

Voice actor Dan Castellaneta, famous for voicing everybody’s favourite animated father (or at least somewhere in the top two with Randy Marsh), will be hooked up to motion capture technology and talk about things that are topical on the day that the show airs.

According to The Hollywood Report, showrunner Al Jean said “As far as I know, this is the first time that’s been done by any animated show… and Dan is a great improviser.”

Fox are asking fans to tweet their questions using the #HomerLive hashtag. The episode will air some time between May 1 and May 4.

We’re very excited to see how this pans out.
