The comedian was recently given iconic and immortal status outside the Chinese Theatre…
JOE was delighted to discover that the name of one of our favourite and funniest writer/directors, Mel Brooks, has just been immortalised in cement outside the famous Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
The hilarious Brooks has won an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy and a Tony Award, aka an EGOT or the ‘grand slam’ of entertainment as it’s more commonly known.
In typical Brooks fashion, the 88-year old wore a fake prosthetic finger to the ceremony so when he dipped his hands into the cement it now looks like he has 11 fingers.
Future generations will now look at his name and think, WTF? Brilliant.
There was another reason for the 88-year-old to celebrate because the event also marked the 40th anniversary of his Oscar-nominated film, Young Frankenstein.
To mark what’s been a great week for the comedy legend, we’ve decided to take a look back at 10 of our favourite Mel Brooks moments.
1) Blazing Saddles
We’re surprised that the horses didn’t keel over with the smell. This scene is pure comedic genius.

2) Spaceballs
One of the funniest film parodies of all time features cross-eyed gunners, gigantic jars of jam and the best combing of the desert that you’ll ever see.
The Schwartz is strong in this one.

3) Young Frankenstein
It takes a special type of comedy film to receive any Oscar acknowledgement from the the usually elitist Academy Award judging panel. This film is special.

4) His cameo in The Simpsons
Brooks will always have the honour of being Homer Simpson’s first passenger during his brief time working as a limo driver.
We love the fact that Homer’s instant freak out upon seeing the image of Patty and Selma frightened the bejesus out of Brooks.
The duo bonded over that 2000-pound man thing and at least we now know that every cave had their own anthem 2000 years ago and that the director hates Carl Reiner.
All together now, “Let ’em all go to hell except for Cave 76”.

5) The Producers
If you’ve never heard about what was intentionally the worst musical of all time and this song then take a look now.
Dancing Nazi stormtroopers, horribly inappropriate lyrics and a completely baffled audience are just some of the gems on offer here.

6) Robin Hood: Men in Tights
There is so much to love in this film including chastity belts, epic sword stick fights and grammatically-challenged villains.
Lend me your ears, now go and watch.

7) The time he wore drag to host Joan Rivers’ show
This is simply wonderful and a lovely tribute to the late icon.
8) History of World War I
We always wondered what were the other five commandments.
Thou shalt not obstruct a TV whilst sport is on and thou shalt not wear sandals and socks must have been be on that smashed tablet.

9) Dracula: Dead and Loving It
To be fair, JOE would have found it hard to find Renfield.

10) This picture from his Walk of Fame ceremony
The man will now always be remembered for what he does best, making people laugh.
