#TRAILERCHEST : Bumblebee looks set to take the Transformers films back to their thrilling roots

Paul Moore

A very welcome change.

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Bumblebee.

Plot’s it all about?

After practically destroying the entire world in an orgy of explosions, car chases and scrap metal, the Transformers franchise is going back to its roots with a character that was there from the very beginning of Michael Bay’s saga.

Loyal, resilient and tough, Bumblebee is arguably the most popular Autobot after Optimus Prime and he’s getting his own film.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

As with every Transformers film, there’s plenty of bang for you buck but judging from the trailer, the mood and atmosphere in this one is a bit different. Granted, the last few films have flattered to deceive but Bumblebee looks very different to recent entries in the franchise.

We’ve still got lots of love for Michael Bay’s original film and if Bumblebee can use that blueprint, we’re optimistic.

Starring: Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Martin Short, Pamela Adlon, Peter Cullen.

Directed by: Travis Knight

Irish release date: 26 December

Enjoy!
