Surely a must-watch for all football fans.
Football movies have been hit and miss down through the years – for every Escape to Victory, there’s a Goal 3 or a Hotshot – but surely, given the breadth of material on offer, the producers behind a movie about the great Lionel Messi are onto a winner.
Directed by Álex de la Iglesia and scripted by Jorge Valdano, the movie will feature real-life footage of Messi dating back to when he was four years old as well as interviews and contributions from influential people in his career like team-mates Xavi, Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta, Diego Maradona, Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff and current Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella.
Oh, Guillem Balague pops up as well.
Judging by the trailer, the movie will also include actors recreating some of the most pivotal moments in Messi’s life to date and, really, it should be a fascinating account of the life of arguably the greatest player the game has ever seen.
The movie is set to premiere in Rio de Janeiro this week and although we won’t be fortunate enough to attend that particular event, we can’t wait to see it nonetheless.
