VIDEO: Newscaster discussing Saoirse Ronan’s nationality makes the cardinal sin

Paul Moore

No, no, no

On a professional level, this week has been brilliant for the Carlow raised Saoirse Ronan because she has just received a BAFTA nomination for Brooklyn. Right now, the entire country of Ireland is behind her because – despite being born in New York and holding dual citizenship – she’s most definitely one of our own.

You may also know that Sur-sha has been fighting the good fight for people with Gaelic names this week, her appearance on Ellen was fantastic, but the talented actress might have to provide a few more lessons for some people in the media.

JOE reader Shane Smith sent this clip into us and take a look as this presenter as he claims the talented actress as ‘one of their own’.

Having seen this clip, I’m instantly reminded of Samuel L. Jackson’s famous interview with Kate Thornton that went as follows;

Thornton: What was it like working with Colin (Farrell), cos he is just so hot in the U.K. right now?

Jackson: He’s pretty hot in the U.S. too.

Thornton: Yeah, but he is one of our own.

Jackson: Isn’t he from Ireland?

Thornton: Yeah, but we can claim him cos Ireland is beside us.

Jackson: You see that’s your problem right there. You British keep claiming people that don’t belong to you. We had that problem here in America too, it was called slavery.

Some people never learn.
