We’re firmly of the belief that the best scares in horror films are from slow-building set-pieces that don’t reveal everything to the audience in one go and the success of Don’t Breathe at the US box-office seems to emphasise this.
Fede Alvarez, director of the very enjoyable Evil Dead reboot, is back with a terrifying tale of three teenagers who burgle a house but find that its blind owner is not as helpless as he appears.
Don’t Breathe ended Suicide Squad’s three-week run at the top of the US box-office and it’s already boasting a very healthy profit, the film was made for just $10m and it has already grossed $26.1m from the North American box office alone.
The Guardian have hailed it as a “master class in tension” while Empire praised it for being an “intense, streamlined exercise in gruesome thrills”. If you’re claustrophobic then Don’t Breathe isn’t for you!
Take a look at the trailer ahead of its Irish release on September 9th.
