We could be seeing an Irish Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spin-off

Paul Moore

Would he make a good stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder?

The Force has awakened around the world which is probably the greatest thing that has ever happened since the Empire was destroyed at the end of Return of the Jedi.

Thanks to those incredibly sound people at Disney, it looks like we’re going to be treated to a new Star Wars film every year now with the next adventure from that galaxy far, far away hitting cinemas on December 15th with the release of Rogue One.

That’s not all though because the coolest character in the Star Wars universe will also be getting his own stand-alone adventure.

Jump Street and The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the men responsible for bringing the most charismatic scoundrel in cinema history to the big screen and Variety have revealed the list of actors that are set to play a young Harrison Ford Han Solo.

Wicklow raised Macbeth and Glassland star Jack Reynor is just one of the dozen men that are vying to be the next pilot of the Millennium Falcon but the Wicklow native has some competition.

Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner are also some of the names in the running.

The film does not shoot until next January, but Variety are reporting that the reason why studio executives are pushing for such an early casting decision has more to do with another Star Wars film that’s currently filming.

Could we be getting a brief Han Solo cameo in Rogue One? We hope so.
