Maverick is back.
The rumours of a Top Gun sequel have been on our radar for quite some time now and while we never lost that loving feeling for the original, a sequel might just have the potential to take your breath away.
The CEO of Skydance Productions David Ellison has revealed that it seems like Maverick is finally over the traumatic death of his wingman Goose and looks set to return to the cockpit.
We wonder is his ego is still writing cheques that his body can’t cash?
“It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology, and fifth-generation fighters are really what the United States Navy is calling the last man-made fighter that we’re actually going to produce, so it’s really [about] exploring the ‘end of an era’ of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today,” Ellison explained. “The plot will take place in the present day to account for the decades between the sequel and 1986.”
As we all know, the superb director of the 1986 film Tony Scott is sadly no longer with us but it seems that Cruise is committed to making the film look as real as possible.
“As everyone knows with Tom, he is 100 percent going to want to be in those airplanes, shooting it practically,” Ellison explained, adding that he hopes production will begin “very soon.”
So what do you make of this guys? Are you ready to get back on that highway to the dangerzone?
