Dr Ronan Glynn reiterated that there is no charge for a consultation with your GP or a Covid-19 test if you need one.

164 new cases of Covid-19 have been notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

No new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

80 of the cases are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case while 21 cases have been identified as community transmission.

93 of the cases are in Dublin, 22 are in Kildare, 10 are in Tipperary, nine are in Cork, eight are in Carlow, six are in Waterford, six are in Offaly and the remaining 10 cases are in Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Louth and Roscommon.

“We have seen a significant number of cases in Dublin, Kildare, Tipperary, Limerick, Cork and Carlow over the past number of days,” Dr. Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said.

“I would urge people everywhere to follow the public health advice and reduce mixing of households where at all possible.

“As we head into Autumn when people are more likely to have cold or ‘flu-like symptoms please do not adopt a wait and see approach. The greatest protection you can give your family and friends is to isolate as soon as you have any symptoms and contact your GP by phone.

“Remember, there should be no charge for either a consultation with your GP nor for a Covid-19 test should you require one.”

A further 72 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Northern Ireland in the past 24 hours, the Department of Health has said.

Nine patients in the north’s hospitals have tested positive for coronavirus, one of whom is on a ventilator in intensive care.
