John Paul Henry Daniel Richard Grimes and Edward Peter Anthony Kevin Patrick Grimes, aka Jedward, have made front page news today.
The 18-year-old Irish entertainers continue to make headlines but this time it has nothing to do with their cringeworthy performances. Nope, this time poor Edward has fallen over while on stage and has a suspected broken leg. The incident occurred during the duo’s performance for Channel 4’s ‘T4 On The Beach’ yesterday.
Edward is being treated in hospital for his injuries which are believed to be either a broken leg or twisted knee ligaments. JOE.ie has wiped away the tears of anguish to fish out five things you may not know about the boys made famous through the X Factor…
1. Jedward were bullied in school.
Well even if you didn’t know this, you may have guessed it. John and Edward attended Scoil BhrÃde National School in Rathangan and then King’s Hospital School for four years, but were constantly bullied as a result of their quiff hairstyles and love of pop music. They were asking for it really, weren’t they? The twins did get a breather, however, when they transferred to the Dublin Institute of Education.
2. Jedward went close to collaborating with Shakira and Lady Gaga.
The tone-deaf twins, managed by the equally tone-deaf Louis Walsh, went very close to working with superstar singer Shakira. The Mirror ran a story in November of last year with comments from the Latina beauty: “The twins are great, good for them. Should I collaborate with them? What do you girls think? Yes? Aaaagh! Ok, go on then, let’s do it! It’ll be funny.”
In a News of the World interview Lady Gaga expressed her interest in the boys. “I love Jedward, I love people who are fun when they are on stage,” said the pop diva. “I would love to perform in Britain with them, I think we should do it at a really big event. It would be an honour to perform for the Queen – or open the Olympics.â€
Unsurprisingly, nothing ever materialised from either Shakira’s or Lady Gaga’s interests.
3. John swore on live TV.
While on the Late Late Toy Show last year John shocked the parents and children of Ireland by swearing, although it was past watershed.
“Oh shit, I ripped my pants,” John said to a startled Ryan Tubridy. “That’s okay,” said Ryan. “Oh my God, that was not planned,” John replied.
4. John and Edward feel one another’s pain*
Some people say twins have a unique bond and can sometimes read each other’s minds and feel each other’s pain. When Edward mangled his leg yesterday medics also rushed on stage to treat John who was in excruciating pain. Doctors have not detected any injury to his body. Creepy.
5. John is older than Edward, by 10 minutes.
John and Edward were born on 16 October, 1991, at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. John is the elder, by ten minutes. The twins were delivered three months early, at 28 weeks, and weighed just 2lb each. They were given only a 50% chance of survival. Both spent weeks in an incubator before being allowed home. What a pair of little miracles.
*4 may not be true. Because we made it up.
