727 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Ireland, 14 more people have died

The latest Covid-19 update.

727 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the Republic of Ireland across results from both Irish and German laboratories.

In a statement issued by the National Public Health Emergency Team, it was also confirmed that 14 more people have died of the virus. This takes the Republic of Ireland’s total death toll to 334 as of Easter Sunday (12 April). The median age of those who have died was 80, and 10 of the deceased had underlying health conditions.

430 of those new cases were confirmed by tests in Irish labs, while testing outsourced to Germany has returned a further 297 positives.

The latest statistics also state that there are 261 Covid patients who have been admitted to intensive care. One-in-five confirmed cases of the illness have required hospitalisation.

Earlier today, it was announced that 11 more people had died in Northern Ireland, taking the island-wide death toll to 452.

There are 9,655 confirmed cases of the illness in the Republic, and 1,806 confirmed cases in the north, giving a total of 11,461.

53% of all cases are located in Dublin.
