High standards in Wexford it seems.
A chef at a four-star hotel in Wexford, who claimed he was sacked over the quality of a sandwich, has won damages.
Mauro Panico says he made a sandwich for one of the owners of the hotel which didn’t go down well, and he was handed his p45.
We’ve no idea what was wrong with the sandwich, maybe he used butter instead of mayo, or the opposite, or both.
According to the Irish Examiner, the hotel say that wasn’t the reason for his dismissal.
They said it was because chicken supremes were being stored at the wrong temperature on the same day.
Panico denied that claim and said the reason for his dismissal was definitely down to the “dodgy” sandwich.
After a lot of back and forth in court, the Employment Appeals Tribunal ordered hotel to pay Panico €14,600 after finding he was unfairly dismissed.
A costly sandwich, eh.
Hat-tip to Irish Examiner.
