Great news for Irish tourism.

Figures released by the Central Statistics Office today revealed that just under 1.7 million trips to Ireland were made between December of last year and February of this year, a 17.1% increase on the year previous.

1,690,400 trips to Ireland were made in that three month period, an overall increase of 247,000 compared to the same period 12 months previously and an increase of over 500,000 compared to December 2012 and February 2013.

The CSO figures revealed that visitors from Great Britain accounted for 838,800 of the trips to Ireland in the three-month period, with a little over half a million from elsewhere in Europe and just under 200,000 from North America.

In a further indication that the boom is on its way back, the number of trips abroad by Irish residents also increased to 1.36 million between December and February an increase of just under 100,000 compared to the same period 12 months previous.

The CSO figures, which you can view in full here, is great news for tourism in this country; it’s not the weather that’s attracting visitors from elsewhere so we must be doing something right.
