Vincent Ryan, the brother of Alan Ryan, dies after being shot in Finglas

Paul Moore

The incident occured at 3.15pm on Monday afternoon

The man that was shot at McKee Road, Finglas on Monday has passed away after battling for his life this evening at Dublin’s Mater Hospital.

Gardai were called to the scene at 3.15pm and the individual has been named locally as Vincent Ryan, brother of the Real IRA crime boss Alan Ryan.

Reports claim that the 25-year-old was shot up to three times in the attack.

Alan Ryan, 32, was shot several times and killed at Grange Lodge Avenue, Clongriffin in September 2012.

Fianna Fail TD, Paul McAuliffe has condemned the shooting and called for a dedicated Garda unit to tackle crimes of this nature: “This happened in the heart of my community. My family lives in the area. It is frightening the way criminals are getting more and more brazen.

“This terrible incident once again highlights the urgent need for a dedicated garda unit to tackle gun crime in Dublin.

“While our local gardaí go above and beyond the call of duty every day to keep our communities safe, it’s clear they simply do not have the resources they need to bring these criminals to justice and maintain a strong presence on the streets.

“Whoever forms the next Government needs to urgently address this issue and to ensure extra Gardaí are recruited.

“Additional resources need to be allocated to support our local gardaí, to allow them to increase street patrols, step up their crime prevention activities and track down the criminals that are threatening our community’s safety.”
