Both Aer Lingus and Ryanair are set to increase their fees for checking baggage on flights, starting from today.
Aer Lingus’ fee for checking 20kg baggage will increase from €20 to €35. Ryanair’s fee will also increase by €15, but from €25 to €40.
The increase is smaller for 15kg baggage, with Ryanair raising online fees from €20 to €30. Aer Lingus’ online fee increase for 15kg bags is from €20 to €35 for longer flights to places such as Greece or the Canary Islands.
According to Independent, an Aer Lingus spokesperson said:
“Our baggage charges have not changed since 2013.”
“We do, however, have different rates based on the time of year which is due to the greater demand for baggage space in the peak season.”
Ryanair have announced that they will be introducing a ‘simplified’ system for checking in bags that will actually see fees go down, depending on where you’re flying, making sure that flyers can still make savings when they travel.
