Aer Lingus offer refunds on flights to Nice and Turkey

Tony Cuddihy

Aer Lingus are offering customers refunds if they’ve booked flights to either Nice or Izmir in Turkey.

The move follows the Bastille Day massacre on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, and last night’s attempted military coup in Turkey.

In a statement, Aer Lingus says: “Due to the tragic events in Nice we are allowing guests who have flights booked to travel between Dublin and Nice on dates between the 16th and 29th July to change for free for a span of two weeks from the date of original booking or to request a full refund if preferred.”

It adds: “We are also aware of the overnight security situation in Turkey and are currently accessing the situation with authorities.”

Anyone who has booked flights between Dublin and Izmir on the same dates is being offered the same deal.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has advised Irish citizens to exercise “a high degree of caution” in Turkey.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs and the embassy in Ankara continue to monitor developments following the thwarted coup attempt on 15 July,” it said.

“The situation in Ankara and Istanbul in particular remains tense, and there is a heightened security presence on the streets in both cities. There have been incidents of violence, and Irish citizens should be extremely vigilant and stay informed of local developments and security advice.”
