The incident took place in Falcon Heights on Wednesday night.

A 32-year old man in Minnesota has died after he was shot a number of times by a police officer after his car was pulled over on Wednesday night.

The victim of the shooting, 32-year old Philando Castile, died as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting, which comes only a day after the death of another black man, Alton Sterling, who was shot dead by police in Louisiana on Tuesday.

The shooting occurred during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights, Minnesota at approximately 9pm on Wednesday night.

St. Anthony Police issued a statement about the incident which read: “On 07-06-2016 at approximately 2100 hours, a St. Anthony Police Officer effected a traffic stop on Larpenteur and Fry in the City of Falcon Heights, Minnesota.

“During the stop, shots were fired. One adult male was taken to the hospital. We have been informed that this individual is deceased.”

The aftermath of the shooting was broadcast on Facebook Live by Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond ‘Lavish’ Reynolds, who was sitting in the front seat and whose four-year-old daughter was sitting in the back of the car.

In the video, Castile can be seen to be bleeding heavily in the driver’s seat of the car while a police officer stands at the window with a gun pointed in his direction and issues instructions to Reynolds in the passenger seat.

Reynolds claims that Castile was shot while reaching for his driver’s license; he also had a pistol in the car which Reynolds says he was licensed to carry.

At one point, the officer, who sounds quite distressed, can be heard to shout: “I told him not to reach for it! I told him to get his hand out…”

Reynolds, meanwhile, responded by saying: “You told him to get his I.D., sir, his driver’s license.”

The shootings have been the source of uproar in the United States and a video, recorded by a female police officer in the aftermath of Sterling’s shooting, has gone viral in the last 24 hours.
