Alan Kelly says that he has no intention of leaving the Labour Party, despite snub

Alan Kelly insists he has no intention of leaving the Labour Party despite failing to secure a nomination to become its new leader.

With Brendan Howlin chosen to succeed Joan Burton, Kelly – who had made his interest in leading the party known – was widely believed to be considering his future.

He was not present at the Royal College of Physicians when Howlin was officially handed the reins, but has told the Mail on Sunday that he wants to “play a decisive role in rebuilding the party.”

Kelly insists he is prepared to work closely with grassroots members of the party across the country as Labour look to recover from a disastrous General Election, from which they emerged with just seven seats in the 32nd Dáil.
