Alexander Pacteau has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the murder of Cork student nurse Karen Buckley.
Pacteau met Karen Buckley outside a nightclub in April, later bludgeoning her with a spanner and strangling her in his car in the early hours of April 12th.
He then hid her body in a barrel that he stored at a farm.
Judge Lady Rae called Pacteau “a callous and calculating man” and said that she could not ignore Pacteau’s conduct after the murder, particularly the fact that he had failed to express any regret until his guilty plea on August 11th.
