To ease you into the 2013 working year, here’s what our dear old continent looked like in the final minutes of 2012.

We all know it sucked dragging your overfed, overdrank body out of the leaba and back into work today. But before you despair at the thought of an entire year of toil stretching out in front of you, have a look at this picture, which may cheer you up.

Tweeted by the brilliant people at @Fascinatingpics it shows what Europe looked like from space at midnight on New Year’s Eve. They don’t say in which timezone the New Year has arrived so it may be an overlay of all the different midnights in one picture.

Ireland is lit up pretty well but the difference between us and England in terms of population is clear by just how bright they are compared to us.
