“The BAFTAs were last week.”
Gardaí handed out fines to a number of motorists outside Watergrass Hill, in Cork on the M8 motorway on Thursday after an accident involving a lorry attracted a number of spectators to the scene.
As Emergency Services were tending to the scene, “some motorists felt compelled to film and photograph what was going on,” a post on the Gardaí’s Southern Region’s Facebook page said.
In total, four drivers were issued with fines on the spot for holding mobile phones while driving.
Another motorist was fined for stopping on the opposite carriageway to look at the scene.
“Please don’t feel the need to film it,” the post read.
“Besides, the BAFTAs were last week. Emergency Services need room to work in dangerous environments and depend on other road users to act responsibly.”
