Cabinet Covid-19 committee to meet today to consider hairdressers and non-essential retail return

Stephen Porzio

Government is to release a plan tomorrow for what the summer months will look like in regards to Covid measures.

The Cabinet sub-committee on Covid-19 will meet today to consider the return of personal services and non-essential retail in May.

According to RTÉ, the sub-committee – which includes the three coalition leaders and various other senior ministers – will be looking at what restrictions should be eased next month, as well as in June and July.

The Government’s plans for May – which are subject to the prevailing public health situation – include the full return of construction, the phased return of non-essential retail and the recommencement of personal services like hairdressers.

Also planned for next month is the reopening of museums, galleries and libraries and the recommencement of religious services.

In June, meanwhile, it is said the focus will be more towards the return of the hospitality sector, such as hotels and B&Bs.

Also, wet pubs may be possibly able to serve customers under the same rules as gastropubs as restrictions ease.

The sub-committee’s recommendations will be considered by the full Cabinet on Thursday, with the Government to reveal their plans for the summer months after the Cabinet meeting.
