Some sporting figures have demonstrated some brilliant ways to respond to Twitter trolls of late, but the Clarke Carlisle method is perhaps the best we’ve seen yet.

Sports stars with any sort of profile and personality on Twitter are normally guaranteed to have thousands upon thousands of followers but the downside of such popularity is that they’re more likely to have to deal with a recently-invented and thoroughly unlikeable breed, the Twitter troll.

Some famous people choose to ignore them, others tend to respond to them, while others still – we’re talking about you Curtis Woodhouse and Conor McGregor – scare the sh*t out of them by threatening to confront them in person.

PFA Chairman Clarke Carlisle on the other hand, chose to silence his Twitter troll with a brilliantly witty riposte earlier today, using a brilliant and oft-quoted line from Anchorman as his inspiration.

That sure told him and while we’re on the subject, one more look at Ron Burgundy himself saying the famous line will surely do no harm…

Thanks to Ruaidhrí Garrett for giving us the heads up on this one
