Commuting in Dublin city gets a lot trickier from Monday morning onwards

Tony Cuddihy

Major Luas works mean stops between Jervis and the 3Arena are closed until July.

From Sunday until the end of July, anyone using the Luas in Dublin will need to use a bus service between Jervis and the 3Arena at the end of the quays.

The final phase of the Luas Cross City construction gets under way this week, meaning further traffic disruption in the heart of Dublin city centre from Monday onwards.

Stops including Abbey Street, Busaras, Connolly, George’s Dock, Mayor Square, Spencer Dock and The Point are out of commission for the time being.

“The Luas is only running to Jervis now so commuters should check where their nearest stop on the alternative bus service is,” said a spokesperson from AA Roadwatch.

“It runs on Bachelor’s Walk on the North Quays to Castleforbes Road near The Point [3Arena], and going the other way from Mayor Square over to Crampton Quay on the South Quays.

“Drivers should also bear in mind that Abbey Street, Marlboro Street and Talbot Street are now closed for the Luas Cross City works until the end of July, so allow extra time on Monday morning, as diversions are now in place for them too.”
