Connolly Station on lockdown due to “security alert”

Connolly Station in Dublin has been evacuated due to a security alert, Iarnród Éireann has confirmed.

In a tweet posted on their official account, Iarnród Éireann confirmed that no services are operating through the station at present.

They further confirmed that “DARTs suspended Clontarf Rd to Pearse, Commuter/Intercity delayed pending further update.”

Photographs from the scene show that commuters have been evacuated from the station.

The Gardaí have confirmed that they are “at the scene of an incident” in the locality, and that Amiens Street to Commons Street have been closed off.

Local diversions are in place, and Gardaí have requested that people use alternative routes to travel.

No specifics of the security alert have been made public.

UPDATE: The Gardaí have sinced confirmed that a “suspect device” was located in the area surrounding the station and that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is now en route.

Iarnród has also confirmed that trains will terminate at the nearest possible stations to Connolly, and that road transfers will be offered.
