We’ve all paid our phone or ESB bill a little late at some stage in our lives. It’s only natural in your busy life that things would slip your mind and sometimes funds can be a little bit hard to come by.
The annoying helpful thing about your phone bill/every other bill is that you’ll get a gentle reminder by post before it is followed by a slightly more menacing reminder about the consequences of an unpaid bill.
But this is taking the biscuit altogether…
Staff at Mallow library in Cork were left in shock this week when a package was posted into them containing two books which were overdue… for 45 years.
They were originally due to be returned on March 21, 1972. But it clearly slipped the mind of the person who withdrew the two books.
Speaking to Patricia Messinger on C103’s Cork Today Show, Mallow librarian Liz Desmond said that she believed the person who sent the books back was afraid they’d be fined, hence they left the books in a postbox before a postman found them and returned them to the library.
She urged other people who found similar books to return them to the library, and don’t worry, you won’t be fined, they’d just love to have the books back.
