The latest figures have been released.

4,962 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed, as well as seven further deaths.

There has now been a total of 2,259 Covid-related deaths in Ireland, while 101,887 people have tested positive since the beginning of the outbreak.

1,260 of Sunday’s cases are in Dublin, while 652 are in Limerick, 350 are in Cork, 321 are in Louth, 238 are in Meath and 2,141 spread across all remaining counties.

2,408 of today’s cases are men, while 2,539 are women.

As of 2pm today, 685 Covid-patients are hospitalised, of which 62 are in ICU. 96 additional hospitalisations have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Speaking on Sunday, CMO Tony Holohan said:

“This is a critical time. We are seeing a really significant surge in infection, which is leading to a very rapid increase in both hospitalisations and admissions to critical care units.

“This is not only unsustainable for the healthcare system, but also a deeply concerning level of preventable sickness and suffering that we must work together to address as quickly as possible.

“Your safe actions now will protect our hospitals and those who work so hard in them. Simply put: when you stay at home, you protect the frontline healthcare workers who have worked tirelessly to keep us all safe throughout this pandemic. Hold firm, remember them.”

Earlier on Sunday, 1,662 further individuals tested positive for Covid-19 in Northern Ireland. Sadly, a further six deaths have also been reported up north.

Leo Varadkar announced this morning that further safety restrictions should not be ruled out, as Covid case numbers continue to rise.
