70-year old cyclist dies following collision with car in Meath

The collision occurred at approximately 11.30am on Sunday.

Gardaí in Navan are appealing for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision on the N2 in Balrath in Meath on Sunday morning which resulted in the death of a 70-year old man.

Gardaí attended the scene of an incident involving a car and a cyclist on the R153 Balrath, near Kentstown, at approximately 11.30am.

A 70-year-old male cyclist was removed from the scene by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the car, a woman in her 40s, was uninjured in the collision.

Garda forensic collision investigators are at the scene and the road remains closed to traffic. The local Coroner has been notified.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and in particular to anyone who was travelling on the R153 in Balrath between 11am and 11.30am to contact them.
