The Freedom of Information Act is a wonderful thing.
This weekend has seen some stiff competition in constituencies all over Ireland as TDs vie for a seat in Dáil Éireann. The Irish public have made their voices heard and they’ve decided to shaft Fine Gael-Labour away from power but any incumbent TD’s in Leinster House might want to keep a firm eye on the individuals working there.
The Sunday Independent have revealed that some civil servants have been using the computers in both the Dáil and Seanad to access a variety of pornographic, gambling and dating websites.
Over 2,280 ‘inappropriate’ sites were accessed during a four-month period and some of the sites visited include; Factsandchicks.com, fitmales.co.uk, justeyecandy.com, Ksexdolls.com, hotornot.com.
It seems that the constant barrage of TV adverts for EliteSingles and partyline.ie is having the desired affect also because these two websites were also browsed.
The investigation showed that there’s plenty of sports fans in Dáil Éireann and they frequently fancy a flutter because gambling websites like Paddy Power, William Hill, Sky Bet, Betfair, 888 Poker, Casino.com and Ladbrokes were also accessed.
Speaking with The Sunday Independent, a spokesperson said that all staff are barred from looking at websites of this nature and that some of these sites may have been accidentally accessed from computer viruses and pop-ups.
There’s no official information available to highlight just how many TDs and Senators have been using PCs to view websites of this nature and the spokesperson also refused to give the exact number of staff members that were caught accessing porn, gambling and dating sites because this data was deemed to be “personal information”.
