A tourist from Dallas in the United States has spoken about getting caught up in a second tragic event in the space of a week.
Kristen Crouch is in Nice for a friend’s wedding and was on the Promenade des Anglais on Thursday night as a truck driver ploughed through crowds celebrating Bastille Day, killing at least 84 people.
Hers was one of a number of heartbreaking witness accounts into the tragedy.
“I heard like two pops,” she told a Dallas TV station.
“I thought it was fireworks and then didn’t think anything of it but all sudden all these people were running in the opposite direction speaking in French and screaming.” said Crouch.
When she and a group of friends began to realise the number of people killed in the massacre, they took cover in a nearby apartment building.
“It’s really sad when you you’ve been marked safe twice on Facebook in the last week. We shouldn’t live in a world like that,” said Crouch.
Crouch had also been in Dallas last week when police were ambushed in an attack during a peaceful protest.
She revealed her relief that she had found safety.
“It’s just very surreal I think we’re all in shock there’s five of us right now just watching CNN and watching news as that number climbs we can’t believe it actually happened right in front of our hotel and just thanking God we’re okay,” she added.
