The Irish leader has been invited to The White House on St. Patrick’s Day.

US President Elect Donald Trump has invited Taoiseach Enda Kenny to The White House next March as part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

A statement from the Irish Government revealed that Kenny and Trump held a ten-minute conversation on Wednesday, just hours after Trump had been confirmed as the 45th President of the United States.

It said that both men were committed to working together to the mutual benefit of both Ireland and the US.

Trump will be welcomed to The White House later on Thursday by President Barack Obama as the current administration looks to ensure a smooth transition of power.

Melania Trump will also be met by current First Lady, Michelle Obama.
