Donald Trump’s people are making threats about his property in Clare

Walls to that.

Donald Trump’s main focus might be on his Presidential bid but the Republican candidate does have a vested interest in the Doonbeg resort, Clare. As we mentioned previously, Trump’s representatives are looking to build a 2.8km-long wall in a bid to to safeguard the resort’s golf links from potential storm damage. We’ve had a few of them over the last few months!

Here’s an artist’s rendition of what we think Trump has in mind. He’s obviously trying to keep those pesky White Walkers out of Clare.

The Wall

Conservationists have staunchly objected to any plans to build a wall though because that the Carrowmore dunes are a Special Area of Conservation and a Natura 2000 site, but this hasn’t deterred Trump International Golf Links and Hotel from threatening Clare County Council.

Trump’s representatives have said that failure to build this wall will bring “the viability of the entire resort and its potential closure into question” and that it would cause “permanent and profound negative economic impact”.

They’ve estimated that the resort has the potential to make €38 million between 2017 and 2024 but this figure will be jeopardised if Clare County Council doesn’t rule in Trump’s favour.

A decision is due on the planning application in April but as John Oliver expertly pointed out, Trump does have a history of scaremongering and making empty threats.
