Two arrested after €4 million worth of drugs seized in Dublin

Separate search operations carried out by An Garda Síochána have led to the seizure of illegal drugs with an estimated street value of €4 million.

As a result of an intelligence-led operation, Gardaí attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau carried out two searches on Friday evening (27 September).

The first operation saw a car intercepted in the Ballyfermot area. Following a search of the vehicle, approximately 20 kilos of diamorphine and cocaine – subject to analysis – was seized.

A man in his late 20s has been arrested in connection with the investigation.

He is currently being detained at Clondalkin Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A late afternoon update from An Garda Síochána confirmed that the man was subsequently charged and was scheduled to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin on Saturday.

In the second operation, a car was intercepted at Parkwest Road in Ballyfermot. The vehicle was searched and approximately 22.5 kilos of diamorphine and cocaine – subject to analysis – was recovered.

A 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being detained at Clondalkin Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

In a follow-up operation at a commercial premises in the Kylemore Industrial Estate, Gardaí seized approximately 1.8 kilos of cannabis resin – subject to analysis.

In total, the seizures amount to a combined street value of €4 million.

Investigations are ongoing.
