Storyful added its name to the list of Irish success stories after a deal was agreed today to sell the company to News Corp

Storyful has today joined forces with News Corp in a deal worth as estimated $25 million (around €18 million). Former RTE news reporter Mark Little started the company back in 2010, with the idea of verifying news that was shared on social networks.

In a statement today on the Storyful blog, Little stated that the company had built itself on partnerships up to this point, and would continue to do so in the future, thanks to their acquisition by News Corp.

The media giant, owned by Rupert Murdoch, will take over the company, but Storyful will continue to operate from its headquarters in Dublin, where they have been providing content for oragnisations such as the New York Times, Yahoo, ABC News, France 24, and Bloomberg.

Little closed his statement by stating that he still sees more growth for the role of social media in the newsroom, stating that “Social journalism is no longer a problem for the news industry…it is a solution.”
