The ‘flotel’ would be located in Dun Laoghaire Harbour.
Dublin could be getting its own brand new floating hotel.
According to the Irish Independent, the idea of a cruise liner with more than 100 cabins permanently berthed in the harbour is being explored by Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company.
The organisation is now awaiting expressions of interest from companies interested in providing a large vessel to Carlisle Pier.
“We want to see what interest there might be in parking a cruise ship at the Carlyle Pier and operating it as a hotel,” said harbour company spokeswoman Carolyn Hanaphy.
The operators would pay rent for the berth, with a requirement for around 100 double rooms.
“There is a huge shortage of hotel accommodation in the Dublin region and the harbour is only 20 minutes from the city centre.
“This would have a significant affect for tourism in Dun Laoghaire and bring many more visitors to the area,” she added.
