Dublin football club Home Farm FC has said its pitches have been left wrecked by “joyriders”.
In a statement posted to Facebook on Friday (1 October), the club said this is the second time in recent months its playing fields on the VEC in Whitehall had been damaged by joyriders and called it “mindless vandalism”.
It also posted images of the damage, in which extensive tyre marks can be seen upon the pitches.
Used by local children and adults, Home Farm FC said the pitches could be unplayable for the weekends ahead.
The club’s statement read: “Another morning sadly having to deal with mindless vandalism. For the second time in as many months, the pitches on the VEC have been targeted by joyriders.
“The pitches used by local children and adults are now in danger of being unplayable for the weekends ahead.”
The club said its team of volunteers and ground staff will work to treat the damage.
In separate news, South Dublin County Council hit out earlier in the week at “absolutely disgraceful” behaviour in the area after a slide in Corkagh Park was set ablaze.
The popular playground slide in Clondalkin was set on fire on Wednesday night, prompting calls for the culprits and anyone with information to come forward to Gardaí.
