Gardaí investigating racial assault on taxi driver in Dublin

Carl Kinsella

An investigation has been opened into the matter.

Gardaí have confirmed that they are investigating an assault captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

Asked specifically about the video in question, An Garda Síochána confirmed the following to JOE:

“Gardaí in Clontarf are investigation an incident of assault that occurred on the 21st April, 2019 on the Malahide Road, Donnycarney at approximately 10pm.

“Investigations ongoing.”

Footage of the incident has been circulated widely online.

It begins with a passenger in the passenger seat of a taxi asking the driver, “What’s your favourite position?” before apparently referring to the driver by a racial slur.

The dash-cam footage, taken from inside the taxi, appears to show the passenger using a racial slur multiple times, and swinging his fists at the driver.

The passenger also appears to claim that he is a police officer.

At one point in the video, he appears to lunge towards the driver, and subsequently appears to yell “Drive me home, you fucking n***** c***.”
