The fire was discovered by the elderly man’s son.
A man in his 80s has died following a house fire in Limerick.
The blaze, which began at close to 1.30am on Saturday morning, enveloped a house in Keyes Park in Limerick city. The city and county fire and rescue service sent three units to the fatal house fire.
It’s understood that the fire was discovered by the man’s son, who was returning home. He found the house filled with smoke and his father was unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom.
Gardaí have since sealed off the house and the scene has been preserved for a technical examination. However the incident is believed to have been accidental.
A post mortem is still to be carried out on the man’s body.
