Elderly woman dies after being struck by agricultural vehicle on farm

Investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí are investigating “all of the circumstances” surrounding the death of a woman following an incident on a farm in Portumna, County Galway.

A woman, aged in her mid 70s, was fatally injured when she was struck by an agricultural vehicle shortly after 4pm on Friday on a farm located near Boula on the outskirts of Portumna.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, however the woman was pronounced dead short time later.

The woman’s body remains at the scene which is currently preserved.

The Garda Technical Bureau and State Pathologist have been notified and are investigating the scene this weekend. The local coroner has also been informed of the death.

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for the Gardaí confirmed the news that a man in his 70s had also died as a result of injuries sustained in a “farming accident” in County Cavan.

The accident occurred on Saturday, April 21 at approximately 10.30am. The man was brought to Cavan Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
